About Go Wild
Who is Go Wild?
GO WILD Wilderness Adventures is a boutique, family-owned guided hiking and backpacking outfitter based in Estes Park, Colorado and operating within the boundaries of Rocky Mountain National Park. Click the “About Us” tab on the website for more details about us and our story!
Why should I choose Go Wild?
Our mission is to be the best adventure-travel company in the industry, and WE ARE COLORADO! The GO WILD staff is based right here in the Rocky Mountains, and we know this area better than anyone! We offer a multitude of great itineraries to fit all types of hikers and outdoor enthusiasts- both in summer and winter. We hire experienced, certified Colorado-based guides, we patronize local businesses, we care about and volunteer within our community, and strive to create outdoor advocates while providing wilderness experiences you will remember forever.
Getting Here
Is getting to Estes Park difficult?
Getting from DIA (DEN) to Estes Park is relatively simple if you are driving straight to Estes Park from the airport, which takes about 1.5 hours. Routing through metropolitan Denver can add time, miles and traffic- resulting in a 2+ hour drive. Regardless, Estes Park is roughly 80 miles northwest of Denver and several routes will appear on most GPS platforms. Click the “Preparation” tab on the website, and scroll to the Transportation Logistics section for more information.
Gear & Packing
Go Wild is an all-inclusive outfitter — what gear do you actually provide?
GO WILD provides the following gear — backpacks, tents, sleeping bags and pads, trekking poles, and bear cans. We partner with brands that make great gear, care about their product, their customer, and the great outdoors. Click the “Resources” tab on the website and scroll to the Gear section to learn more about what gear we use on GO WILD trips.
Since Go Wild provides the gear, what do I need to bring?
Guests need to provide appropriate clothing and shoes. We can provide recommendations regarding apparel and footwear if you need help!
Can I bring my own gear — I love my backpack, sleeping bag, etc.?
YES, guests can bring their own gear IF approved by GO WILD management. All gear on GO WILD trips must be seasonally appropriate (with approved temperature ratings), and size appropriate (enough volume to carry your gear, your bear can and your portion of the group obligation). Please note that GO WILD does not offer a price adjustment when bringing your own gear.
I forgot my rain jacket / hiking shoes / headlamp — what can I do?
GO WILD has you covered! Estes Park Mountain Shop — a GO WILD partner — is a fantastic outdoor retailer that has been in business over 40 years, and has everything you need from shoes to apparel to accessories!
Food & Dining
What do we eat on a backpacking trip — store bought backpacking meals?
NO! GO WILD guides create great tasting and healthy hiking meals for breakfast, trail lunches and campsite dinners. We even have a cookbook of backcountry recipes!
Does GO WILD accommodate dietary restrictions?
Yes, GO WILD can craft Backpacking and Basecamp meals to accommodate dietary preferences, restrictions and allergies. On Lodge Trips, all the restaurants we patronize can accommodate dietary restrictions.
Can I drink alcohol on Go Wild trips?
Guests can purchase alcohol on separate, personal tabs when dining in restaurants on our Lodge Trips and Basecamp Trips. However, we remind you that excessive alcohol consumption and hiking — especially at the high altitude of the Rockies — is not a good mix. We strongly discourage any alcohol consumption on backpacking trips.
Booking & Logistics
Do you provide pre and post trip lodging?
Pre and post trip lodging in Estes Park is not included on any standard GO WILD trip package. However, we are happy to arrange pre and post trip lodging in Estes Park for a small admin fee (added to the lodging price).
Does Go Wild offer private trips? I just want to hike with my friends / family.
YES, any GO WILD itinerary can be designated as a private group, with only the guests you select (up to the RMNP permitted amount of hikers) allowed to join the trip.
Can we book a private trip with just 4 guests?
Yes, however the scheduled rate does go up. See our “Private Trips Pricing Guide” for more details.
We have a party of 9 — can Go Wild accommodate us?
Maybe! GO WILD can accommodate large groups (up to 10 hikers and 2 guides) on certain itineraries (basecamps and lodge tours) IF the lodging can be secured. That can be challenging as the season progresses, but we will certainly try! We may be able to accommodate large groups on certain backpacking itineraries IF the area we traverse supports large group campsites AND those sites are available through the RMNP permitting process.
Custom & Corporate Trips
I’m looking for something different — does Go Wild build custom trips?
Maybe. With enough time to plan, it’s possible to build new backpacking itineraries. However, GO WILD operates within RMNP hiking and camping rules and permitting schedules, so the idea of building a new, custom trip would likely have to be discussed and planned months in advance. On Basecamp and Lodge Trips, we can hike on trails not listed as part of the itinerary IF we are approved to be in that area.
Can companies select a trip for our employees?
YES! GO WILD is happy to offer Corporate Trips. Reach us with details about your company, tell us about your hikers, and what you hope to accomplish during an outdoor adventure. We can use existing itineraries, potentially add or subtract activities, and include dedicated time slots within the itinerary for concepts like training and team-building.
Can we add fishing / yoga / horseback riding / jeep tours / climbing / rafting / shopping to the itinerary?
YES! GO WILD has connections with great local companies offering a variety of activities. We will do our best to insert requested activities pre, post and/or during our scheduled itinerary. Basecamp and Lodge Trips tend to offer more opportunities for external activities.
On the Trail
We want more backpacking days in the Rockies — can we lengthen our trip?
There may be extended hiking options to consider, however, all backpacking itineraries are based on campsite availability and permits issued by RMNP and are subject to availability. GO WILD always operates within RMNP hiking and camping rules and permitting schedules.
I’m tired — can I opt out of a day’s scheduled event?
Guests can opt out of a hike or activity on Basecamp and Lodge Trips — ask us about the guidelines for doing so. On backpacking trips, guests may be able to opt out of side-hikes on layover days. Guests cannot opt out of a scheduled hike when we are breaking camp and moving to a new campsite.
What if I get hurt on a Go Wild trip? Where are the nearest emergency services?
Believe it or not, most GO WILD trips are within 2 hours of Estes Park, which has a well-regarded hospital and urgent care facilities. If your GO WILD trip takes you to the west side of RMNP, there is a hospital and urgent care in Granby, CO.
Loyalty & Discounts
I love Go Wild and the Rockies — do I get a discount on future trips?
YES, after your first paid trip with GO WILD, you get a 15% discount on all future trips!
Reach out — we’re happy to discuss anything about adventuring in the Rockies.
